Intermediate encaustic painting with shellac

Class Description
This class is for Encaustic painters with previous experience in a beginner class. We will work with a
hotplate, stylus, brushes, torches and powdered pigments on wooden substrates.
Students will have a review of safety practices and Encaustic tools. Painting techniques such as
smoothing, layering, incising, mark making, and shellac will be incorporated into the class. Use of oil
sticks, oil pastels, pan pastels, India ink, alcohol inks and other mixed media may also be applied.
Previous introductory class is required. All equipment and supplies will be provided except an N95
respirator mask or better. You must bring a mask to class.
Class time
10 – 4pm
Students will leave with 2-3 finished pieces.
