Working small with the encaustic iron

Class Description
This class is for beginners to Encaustic. We will work on Encaustic paper, making 4×6 paintings that will
be mounted on card stock as greeting cards or taken home to be matted and framed.
Students will learn the history of Encaustic, safety practices, and proper use and care of the iron and
stylus. Painting techniques such as smoothing, layering, texturing, mark making, stencilling and scaping
will be incorporated into the class. Use of pan pastels, inks and other mixed media may also be applied.
No experience is necessary. All equipment and supplies will be provided.
Class time
12 – 3pm
Students will leave with 6-8 finished pieces.
