Intermediate encaustic painting

Class Description
This class is for Encaustic painters with previous experience in a beginner class. We will work with an
iron, a hotplate, stylus, torches, brushes and various substrates like wood, canvas boards and papers.
Students will have a review of safety practices and Encaustic tools. Painting techniques such as
smoothing, layering, texturing, incising, mark making, stencilling, imbedding natural and man-made
items, scaping and photo transfer will be incorporated into the class. Use of oil sticks, oil pastels, pan
pastels, India ink, alcohol inks and other mixed media may also be applied.
Previous introductory class is required. All equipment and supplies will be provided.
Class time
10 – 4pm
Students will leave with 3-4 finished pieces.
